Psychotherapy In Devon
Amanda Farrington

This may feel like stepping into the unknown...

Especially if you have never been in any sort of therapy before. Or, perhaps you have experienced it before and feel a need for some help again.

If you decide to work with me, I offer...

• a safe environment
• a confidential and supportive space
• an empathic and respectful welcolme
• eight years experience in private practice
  • working experience of the NHS
    • committed to a recognised Code of Ethics

    and...

    • have experienced a thorough and lengthy training
    • am in regular supervision with a registered supervisor

    Working together, be prepared to...

    • be open
    • be honest about your feelings

A lot may be going through your mind especially in the first session. Try to share as much as you feel comfortable with, as time goes on and trust grows, then naturally you will be able to explore a little more.

    What does all this mean?

There are different approaches in psychotherapy. My training is Humanistic and Integrative and that means I integrate different theories, and I am aware of and work with, the mind, body and spirit within the therapeutic relationship.

Coupled with this, I work psychodynamically, which simply means I pay attention to patterns from the past. As an adult, an experience you had as a child, or pattern you may have developed as a consequence, can affect your relationships now.

No matter what training a therapist has had, what is important is that you feel that you can work with someone, particularly when you might be feeling vulnerable. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
