Frequently Asked Questions
What therapy is not...Does a therapist tell you what to do?
No, therapy is not about being told what to do, just as it is not magic. It takes work on the part of the client and the therapist. Change happens as a result of the work.
How long does it take a therapist to fix your problem?
Therapy does not 'fix' people because they are not broken - however some people can feel as if they are because of their life experiences or a traumatic event.
Will I be criticised during my therapy?
Therapy is not about blaming, or judging, or shaming or put-downs.
It is about...
Realistic expectations...
Therapy is a process. Initially a person may feel relieved at being able to talk to someone who is attentive and caring. Like most relationships, this therapeutic one will also have its ups and downs…..this is not unusual, and it is important that you stick with it and push ahead. Of course, it will help if you share your feelings and this process will uncover issues that can then be addressed and resolved.
It sounds serious and intense, is it?
Sometimes, but it is important to remember that therapy also requires laughter. It may be that laughter feels as if it missing in your life then it could be that you are depressed and to talk this through with someone would be helpful.
